Choosing a recipe
- Puppies: the Rabbit Dog Meal is complete and balanced for all life stages, including puppies. For other recipes, message the team and we will advise what suits your puppy's age.
- Kittens: message the team with your kitten's age and weight and we will help you choose.
- Tell Build My Box your pet's birth date so their age is included when the daily amount is calculated.

Portions change as they grow
A growing pet's needs change week by week. A portion that was right at 3 months will not be right at 6 months.
- Weigh your puppy or kitten every 1 to 2 weeks.
- Update their weight in My Pets (Edit Pet). When you save, you can choose Update Subscription so the box keeps up.
- Watch body shape: you want a lean, well-covered frame, not a round tummy.
More on updating: my pet's needs have changed.
Meals and routine
- Young pets usually eat more often than adults. Ask your vet what suits your pet's age, and split the daily amount across those meals. See meals per day.
- Switch gradually from the food they were eating before: puppies (7 days), kittens (14 days).
- Keep treats small: under about 10% of daily calories. See treats.
For very young puppies and kittens, and for pregnant or nursing mothers, please speak to your vet before changing their diet. Contact your vet quickly if a young pet stops eating, has ongoing vomiting or diarrhoea, or loses weight.
