Common routines
| Pet | A common routine |
|---|---|
| Adult dogs | Two meals, morning and evening |
| Cats | Two or more smaller meals through the day |
| Puppies and kittens | Usually more frequent meals. Ask your vet what suits your pet's age. |
These are common habits, not rules. If your pet is healthy and happy on a different routine, that is fine.
How to split a pack
- Check your pet's daily amount in Build My Box or on their card in My Pets.
- Divide it by the number of meals. Example: 400 g a day as two meals is 200 g per meal.
- Take each portion from the thawed pack in the fridge, close the pack again and return it to the fridge.
- Use a thawed pack within 4 days, kept at 3 to 8 °C.
A kitchen scale makes portions easy for the first couple of weeks. After that most owners can judge it by eye.
Serving each meal
- Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed, never hot.
- Do not leave fresh food sitting out for long, especially in hot weather. Pick up what is not eaten.
- Keep fresh water available all day.
Ramadan routine
Many families change their meal times in Ramadan, and your pet can too. Keep the daily total the same and simply move the meals to fit your day.
- Two meals: one around iftar and one around suhoor.
- Cats or pets used to three meals: iftar, a small meal later in the evening, and suhoor.
- Thawing: keep moving tomorrow's pack to the fridge each day, at a time you will remember (for example after iftar).
- Water: pets do not fast. Keep fresh water available all day.
Changing meal times is fine; changing the total amount is a different decision. If your pet's needs have changed, see my pet's needs have changed.
