The five golden rules
| Step | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Freeze on arrival | Meals and broths arrive frozen. Put them straight into the freezer and keep them there until you need them. | Freezing keeps our meals fresh without added preservatives. |
| 2. Thaw in the fridge | Move a pack from the freezer to the fridge about 12 hours before you need it. Never thaw on the counter. | Slow, cold thawing keeps the whole pack at a safe temperature. |
| 3. Keep it cold, use within 4 days | Once thawed, keep it in the fridge between 3 °C and 8 °C and use it within 4 days. | Fresh food has no preservatives, so the fridge clock matters. |
| 4. Never refreeze | Once a pack has thawed, it stays in the fridge until it is used. | Freezing again does not reset the 4-day clock. |
| 5. Serve gently | Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed, never hot. | Warmth releases the aroma; heat can burn a mouth. |
A simple daily routine
- Every evening, move the pack (or packs) you will need tomorrow from the freezer to the fridge.
- At mealtime, weigh out the portion from a pack that has fully thawed and serve it.
- Reseal or cover the open pack and put it back in the fridge straight away.
- After the meal, pick up the bowl. Don't leave fresh food sitting out.
Small dog or cat? One pack can last several meals. Write the day you moved it to the fridge on the pack with a marker: the 4 days count from when it thawed, not from when you opened it.
Bone broths
Broths follow exactly the same rules as meals: freezer until needed, thaw in the fridge, keep at 3 to 8 °C once thawed, use within 4 days and never refreeze.
Treats
Our treats are dehydrated, so they don't need the freezer or fridge. Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place.
Always follow the instructions printed on the pack.
