What does “66% meat” or “85% lamb” mean?

It is the real-meat content of the recipe: meat and organs as a share of the whole meal. It is not the protein percentage, which you will find in the nutritional analysis on each product page.

Real meat, not protein

When a pack says 66% chicken, it means 66% of the meal by weight is chicken meat and organs. Other fresh pet food brands label it the same way (for example "Beef 65%").

Protein is a different number. The Chicken Dog Meal is 66% chicken and 12.62% crude protein as fed.

Why does fresh food protein look lower than kibble?

"As fed" means the figure includes all the water in the food. Our meals are around two-thirds moisture (65% to 75%), just like fresh meat. Dry kibble has had most of its water removed, so every nutrient looks bigger on its label. To compare fairly, you would need to compare both foods on a dry-matter basis.
